Written by Peter L. Bernstein this is basically the history of risk. It is fascinating and takes the reader through Socrates ('Likeness to truth is not the same thing as truth'), Fibonacci, Pascal, Gauss, Keynes, the world of derivatives and much more. Part science, part psychology, part history the book gives a wide historical view/analysis on the assessment and management of risk.
"Nothing like it will come out of the financial world this year or ever. I speak carefully: no one should miss it." - John Kenneth Galbraith, Professor of Economics Emeritus, Harvard University
Wow, I sounded like a book cover plug there. But really, great book - I read it twice. It improved my investment knowledge. Also it didn't have too much math which is good for me.
(This is one of the things that brought me to this site - the educational emphasis.) |
