iPad 2 preview:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4203/the-ipad-2-and-ios-4-announcement
| Quote: | To further overuse a ridiculously overused phrase, the new iPad is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. The internals get what should be a nice bump, but the screen size and resolution remains the same, and we aren't going to see any major changes in the new tablets interface or functionality. For the most part, it can do everything the original iPad could, just faster. Current iPad users who aren't bothered by the first-gen device's lack of a camera won't likely find a must-have reason to upgrade, especially since the first iPad will likely be supported by iOS 5 and beyond.
At the same time, users who found themselves unimpressed by the original iPad are unlikely to be won over by the iPad 2. A speed bump and a pair of cameras aren't enough to make the iPad more like a notebook if that's what you want.
However, the new iPad does attempt to further the blurring of the line between full computers and tablets, a line that is only going to get blurrier as more Honeycomb tablets invade the market. The iPad still lacks a dedicated keyboard, which will probably always hamper its utility as a content creation device for me, but iMovie and GarageBand join the already existing iWork apps as decent tablet versions of desktop programs.
The iPad continues to be a good purveyor of the Apple Experience, a middle step between the iPhone and iPod Touch at the low-end and the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro at the high-end. We're missing a few performance and hardware details, and iOS is beginning to look a bit dated in comparison to Honeycomb, but none of these issues will likely stop the new iPad from being just as hot a seller as the previous version. |

From SD message board:
| Quote: | I've been an avid Apple user since I was 9 years old. I've used my Macbook Pro heavily for the past 5 years on the road as a consultant and it has performed without a hiccup. Its a fine piece of work.
HOWEVER, Apple has fallen WAY behind in their laptop specs. I have shelved my Macbook Pro and purchased a couple of Sony VAIO's. Sony's support is terrible as opposed to Apple's flawless support (in my experience), but I needed the specs that Sony offered.
Looking at the leaked specs of the "new" Macbook Pros that are going to be announced, I was xxx. Do they think we're going to do cartwheels over a F*ING "Thunderbolt port"? THAT'S ALL THEY ADDED!
So specific to this deal, a Macbook Pro that is close to the specs of my Sony (but still inferior to the Sony) is over $2,000. I bought the VAIO for $1135. Do the math.
Unless Apple wants to be a company that only sells phones and gadgets, they'd better do a serious OVERHAUL of their Mac Pros and Macbook Pros next year. |

Jobs "spotted" in the Blogosphere as healthy, "looking good." Using the sudden weakness on Microsoft/Nokia (weakness) to get out of puts and re-enter on the inevitable buy.
Jobs departure all too orchestrated for me. I don't think he's coming back--unless El Cid. _________________ Today is the Tomorrow you worried about Yesterday! |

Buying june 300 puts if we get strong earnings to close up the gap. Don't think we'll be seeing Stevie-boy at any more black turtle-neck events. --And I expect the strong earnings to continue throughout the year.
This has been a truly unique depression where we wait in foodstamp lines with our iphones. Irony almost cries out for this company to falter as the country recovers. --Droid is the weak-link. _________________ Today is the Tomorrow you worried about Yesterday! |
