A must-read, IMHO. You think private pensions are in a crisis? Check out the various local and state governments' obligations. Compound this with the fact that public pension plans operate under a different set of rules (GASB as opposed to FASB, and they are also not subjected to ERISA) than private pensions (i.e. generous assumptions and less disclosures than private pensions) and this a bombshell waiting to happen:
