There seems to be a lot of excitement about "core" CPI, which excludes "food" and "energy." Well, since I never buy gas, groceries, or propane, and live by candlelight, (my laptop is pedal-powered), I guess my prices didn't rise. If they want to level out the volatility of a component, they should use a Y-O-Y change or a TTM average, instead of excluding the component. After all, when all of the volatility seems to be "up" it is silly to exclude it.
