GM is up about 19% in the last couple of weeks, BUT fundamentals IMO have not changed.

Government Motors, yes; but which government?

To be rescued from the russians to only land into the tender embrace of the chinese?! The good news here is that, unlike ourselves, foreigners still respect US manufacturing.

My secret is out: These guys forgot about the bearer bonds (swiss francs) but have all the right numbers plugged in....except the depression. Also forget that GMBK sits on a big super-fund site and plenty of mesothelioma cases newly dusted off. $13 billion is doable '11 but not basis 1H 2010. And not if they keep taking $1billion hits on the Korean won. There are some clawback moves that work in our favor too, however.

I have no idea how the trust-stucture equity works out for trading and govt. overhang probably puts us in line for another citi. Popular pressure for a dutch auction IPO from sea to shining sea comes as a free embedded option .

One of the prominent risks identified in GM's IPO filing. Talk about the snake biting it's tail!

Quote:
(2) The following description of the selling stockholder was provided by the UST. The UST is the executive
agency of the U.S. government responsible for promoting economic prosperity and ensuring the financial
security of the United States. The UST is responsible for a wide range of activities, such as advising the President
of the United States on economic and financial issues, encouraging sustainable economic growth and fostering
improved governance in financial institutions. The UST operates and maintains systems that are critical to the
nation’s financial infrastructure, such as the production of coin and currency, the disbursement of payments to
the American public, revenue collection and the borrowing of funds necessary to run the federal government. The
UST works with other federal agencies, foreign governments and international financial institutions to encourage
global economic growth, raise standards of living and, to the extent possible, predict and prevent economic and
financial crises. The UST also performs a critical and far-reaching role in enhancing national security by
implementing economic sanctions against foreign threats to the United States, identifying and targeting the
financial support networks of national security threats and improving the safeguards of our financial systems. In
addition, under EESA, the UST was given certain authority and facilities to restore the liquidity and stability of
the financial system. See also the section of this prospectus entitled “Risk Factors—Risks Relating to this
Offering and Ownership of Our Series B Preferred Stock and Common Stock—The UST, a selling stockholder,
is a federal agency, and your ability to bring a claim against it under the federal securities laws may be limited.”

Here's some numbers. Take with a grain of salt--but no asbestos.

There's my man:

...Whitacre told the Centers for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars here that the purchase of AmeriCredit "came together in about a month, start to finish. No consultants, no drawn-out analysis -- and no doubts either."

Unless Tony Tan and friends come in big (look for SAIC to be a big buyer) this is going to be a buy-write strategy for '11. We're looking at the citi-ceiling effect.

But...that the govt. is forcing the pre-election IPO (better set to spring '11), that we're getting the deal-of-a-second-lifetime consortium fee, and could see the scrap rate put over 12m SAAR this fall; and, if they still wanna show the good cop to Wall St. maybe they'll be willing to "induce" a good opener with a total wholesaling. A $70b capitalization makes all things possible.

Nothing kicks 'til we hit that 12m + SAAR however.

GM rebirth:

http://business.financialpost.com/2010/07/23/august-16-the-week-of-the-gm-comeback-ipo/

Quote:
In response to dealer complaints that a lack of consumer financing was costing GM sales, the company purchased AmeriCredit Corp. for US$3.5-billion on Thursday (follow AmeriCredit stock). The firm specializes in offering financing to those with ‘high-risk’ credit scores, which critics have said would encourage the kind of ‘sub-prime’ lending that led to the Great Recession that played a central role in the car maker’s initial downfall.

GM also remains in talks with Bank of America Corp (BAC.N), JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N), and Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N) for dealer and consumer financing for more credit-worthy borrowers, according to one of the sources quoted by Reuters.

Once filed, the initial public offering will be among the largest in the history of capitalism. GM plans to use the money to pay back close to US$50-billion given to the auto giant by Washington and Ottawa as part of a bailout package in 2009.

If I can get another dime or two out of the Jan 22.5-25 call spread I'm in. This deal WILL go through. Easy 4% in less than half-year. Idea

The re-packaging (not re-birth) of GM is on track with big PR piece in NY Times and a new subprime arm:

Yes it's becoming more and more apparent that GM is an emerging market play. At least that was their pitch at the IPO conference last week--at the bottom of course. But did you know just how much an eem play? GM "owns" Uzbekistan:
