Play money.
Were these guys really that smart? Or, is this a MEW indicator in disguise. Call buying hardly really stops (gotta love that structural bull) and exuberance peaks with housing and "restructures" at peak earnings. The "china syndrome" seems to be completely absent.
It'll be interesting to see if a stabilized housing market can bring back the big little money:

Hi Mr. Hunter,
Given the dearth of institutional activity over this week and during the first couple of weeks of January, I would take any stock market activity over the next few weeks with a grain of salt. If we move in any extreme direction over the next few weeks, a profitable venture may be to fade that move.
Given the lack of supply in terms of new and secondary offerings over the next few weeks, I doubt the market will head down during that timeframe - end-of-year tax-loss selling notwithstanding. Come the middle of January, however, the market will need to face some tough issues going forward, such as:
1) 2008 forward earnings
2) Company buybacks, or the potential lack thereof, given cash hoarding by just about everyone
3) Continued credit tightening by the financial industry of both businesses and consumers alike
4) The propensity to take risks going forward, given the tremendous run-up in global equity, real estate, junk bond, and commodity prices over the last five years
5) Personal income growth levels in the developed world, namely the US, UK, Japan, and Western Europe. According to Trimtabs, US personal income growth has decelerated tremendously over the last few weeks, even though the BEA official data has not caught on to this yet. |

Thanks again for all your assistance Master H.
Ive noticed that the CBOE total put/call ratio is off the chart and might need some close attention.
Keep up the great work. |
