I'm a huge Jesse Livermore fan; and in my research on his life I came across two newspaper articles which some might find interesting:
1. "CHARGED WITH THEFT"
Jesse L. Livermore Arrested at the Instigation of a visiting relative.
MANCHESTER, N.H. July 13 - JESSE L. LIVERMORE, 18, was arrested at Wilton Today by Inspector Flood of Nashua on the charge of stealing $600 from his uncle, who is visiting here from Atlanta, GA.
The theft was discovered this morning, and the young man was missing. It was learned that he had hired a livery team and started for xxx Junction, and the police were notified by wire. He was brought back to manchester." - Boston Daily Globe, July 14, 1895, pg. 22.
2. THE MANCHESTER UNION Tuesday, July 16, 1895, pg. 3.
"LIVERMORE BOUND OVER TO SUPREME COURT"
"In $800 Bonds"
Jesse Livermore was overtaken at Wilton by Inspector O'Dowd, Saturday forenoon.
Livermore's counsel: Henry E. Burtham
Jesse pleaded not guilty.
"He was bound over in the sum of $800 for the September term of court". p.3.
"The young man's uncle, Lauriston L. Prouty, was in court ready to appear against him." p. 3.
"The bail was furnished." p. 3
I am from South Boston, MA. and found these newspaper articles in the Microfilm room of the Boston Public Library Copley Square. I am doing further research. Hope you also look these up. Thanks! |

Hi Henry,
Thanks!
The good news is that the young (eighteen) year old Jesse Livermore was found "not guilty" by the Grand Jury on September 24, 1895 (page 3 of the Manchester Union).
But the Tuesday July 16, 1895 article (page 3) of the Manchester Union is worth reading because it gives some descriptions of the young Jesse's lifestyle. Paul Sarnoff's book is way off base about Jesse Livermore. _________________ "Midnight, and today becomes tomorrow." |
