The nameless GI, known only as "The King," runs the black market in a Japanese prison camp during WWII (the delayed continuation of "the war to end all wars"). A masterful study of human nature, economic exchange, and good old-fashioned American horse-trading capitalism.
Not really an investing book, but an insightful look into capitalism in its rawest form - IMO the black market is the purest form of capitalism on earth. It points out the basic truth that all voluntary exchange takes place only when both parties see the exchange as bettering their circumstances ...
BTW I still can't believe the movie version starred Frank Sinatra. _________________ I haven’t seen a beatin’ like that since somebody stuck a banana in my pants and turned a monkey loose. |
