I would suggest the following items in the future, regarding links out from the board.
(1) Links out should be to specific posts and not to the root or main page, i.e. a link to blahblah.org/today is good, a link to blahblah.org is bad.
(2) We have a tool on the message board to enclose URLs in [ ] and make a descriptive link. Please use this for longer URLs. I know that it doesn't work that well with sites that use "=" in their URL so maybe a service like TinyUrl or perhaps playing with the URL string to remove some of the "=" detritus? I know that works with some FT links. If you find that your link breaks the format of a 1024px or 1280px resolution screen, fix your link.
(3) Use a relevant quote or small one-sentence summary of the link, i.e. "blahblah.com's take on oil prices" is good, "blahblah.com's take" is bad.
(4) Quoting the whole thing may have copyright implications. Be nice to whom you quote, especially since you thought they provided enough value to be quoted. Link. Directly to the article and not just to the site.
(5) Quotes should be marked as such. We have a Quote tool [ ] and using italics [ ] works, also, so we know they said this and you added that. Be nice to whom you quote, especially since you thought they provided enough value to be quoted. Link. Directly to the article and not just to the site. _________________ I haven’t seen a beatin’ like that since somebody stuck a banana in my pants and turned a monkey loose. |
