It already does that--with a human being. It's called On-Star. Integrating other systems onto "your grid" is barely being accomplished in Solar/ Utilities. Sadly, like many things, it's a problem of "litigation." And while on the subject, this guy is not gonna like the "super-beeper" all these cars are going to require under 15mph--to "protect and serve."
Now imagine putting up 10,000-watt charging stations like parking meters around town. Can you imagine the dangers--the danger-mongering. I can't even watch an episode of Caesar Milan with legal disclaimers flying across the screen
We might have to loose "ownership" to pull this off in cities. Paris "autolib" slated for this summer may show the way. Otherwise, induction highways. _________________ Today is the Tomorrow you worried about Yesterday! |

Dominion Resources is Getting Ready for Electric Vehicles
By Glenn Williams | Oct 05, 2011 | 12:12 PM EDT
Dominion Resources (NYSE: D) is rolling out a program for Virginia’s electric vehicle owners. The program allows customers to choose from three options:
Option 1: Do nothing and pay standard residential rates.
Option 2: Dominion installs a second meter in the customer’s home. The second meter is a time-of day meter and only measures the energy used by the vehicle. The base charge is a flat $2.90 per month. The energy charge is added to the base charge and it includes distribution charges. Energy is 13.289 cents per kilowatt-hour for on-peak, 3.949 cents for off-peak and 3.204 cents for super off-peak. The tariff defines on-peak hours are between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., super off-peak hours are between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. and all other hours are off-peak.
Option 3: Dominion replaces homeowner’s standard meter with a time-of-day meter for all household electricity use, including recharging vehicles. The base charge is a flat $7.00 per month. For the summer, energy is 11.554 cents per kilowatt-hour for peak periods, 5.871 cents for intermediate, 3.705 cents for off-peak and 2.497 cents for super off-peak periods. For the winter (October 16 to April 15) energy is 6.658 cents per kilowatt-hour for on-peak periods, 4.159 cents for off-peak and 3.441 cents for super off-peak periods (no intermediate in winter months). The tariff defines summer on-peak as 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., off-peak as 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and super off-peak as 1 a.m. to 5 a.m and all other hours are intermediate.
Dominion estimates that an overnight charge under Option 1 is about $1.10. Option 2 would cost 54 cents (my pick). Option 3 would cost 51 cents in the winter and 61 cents in the summer. _________________ Today is the Tomorrow you worried about Yesterday! |

| Quote: | | ....To add insult to injury, Britain has temporarily banned LEAF vehicles from being sold. The LEAF contains a noisy backup warning sound to warn pedestrians -- a necessity, given the vehicle's relatively quiet motors. But apparently that warning violates British noise laws, which prohibits loud noises between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. |
Luv that auto biz. It's really a supply issue for both of these makes right now. When you're loosing money on every sale you gotta go slow--but hope those Leaf owners aren't too attached to their heaters or ACs _________________ Today is the Tomorrow you worried about Yesterday! |
