Honda now attempting a come-back:

Quote:
It's working on a new high-profile hybrid—a Prius fighter that analysts expect will have the highest mileage on the road when it arrives in 2009. Code-named the "Global Small Hybrid," Honda's new gas-electric model won't be a version of anything else in its lineup. Instead, Honda execs say it will be a five-passenger, small family car priced under $22,000.

Toyota isn't standing still. Toyota's U.S. president, Jim Press, tells NEWSWEEK that his company is looking to create an entire Prius car line, with different models all carrying the Prius badge. "We have a chance to expand the Prius model line and create a sort of sub-brand of Toyota," says Press. Industry sources say Toyota is developing three Prius models—a small car, a family car and a crossover utility vehicle that will begin rolling out in 2009.

That Prius design was all-important: not too "electric," not "invisible." As in all good innovation giving people "The Same But Different."

The hybrid war heats up further - with the "air-compressed" car concept now making the rounds:

Quote:
That's the idea behind the compressed air car, a vehicle its backers say could achieve a fuel economy of 106 miles per gallon.

Plenty of skepticism exists, but with many Americans trying to escape sticker shock at the gas pump, the concept is generating buzz.

The technology has been the focus of MDI, a European company founded in 1991 by a French inventor and former race car engineer.

New York-based Zero Pollution Motors is the first firm to obtain a license from MDI to produce the cars in the United States, pledging to deliver the first models in 2010 at a price tag of less than $18,000.

The concept is similar to how a locomotive works, except that compressed air -- not steam -- moves the engine's pistons, said Shiva Vencat, vice president of MDI and CEO of Zero Pollution Motors.

WOW!!

Crude oil will retrace all its parabolic gain if these cars make to market at
affordable price.

Not sure if Jim Rogers knows this. His argument on supply not keeping up
with demand will be bust at least for oil.
