Over a decade of analysis, GFIA, a Singapore-based consultancy, has found that among Asia ex-Japan long-short equity funds – still the most popular regional strategy – mid-sized funds have been the sweet spot. The definition of “mid-sized” has changed, of course, as markets have waxed and waned. It currently applies to the US$250m to $750m range. But the trend is remarkably constant: mid-sizers achieve the best performance, with the lowest volatility. |
