Can anyone recommend a U.S based institution that allows a UK citizen to sign up and speculate in the stock market? It needs to be okay for a UK citizen to sign up and would not need a U.S social security number.

I thought London was the financial capital of the world! No indonesian miners or russian oil minnows over here.

Most any will do, but you'll need a TIN--for all practical purposes a SS number. IRS always ready to jump on those cap gains. You can get around all of that with a private banker (not UBS!), sell you shares of their own trust, etc.... but, then you're rich already!

Maybe a Wyoming/Nevada LLC or something will work out for you if you're in it for the long term. That's how the the SP companies do it over there.
