Porsche engineers a major short squeeze/corner on Volkswagen common. The market cap of the latter now makes it the fourth most valuable company in the world:

Selling the Dec 35 TRW puts to try to take advantage of the poor earnings reception and a "free" shot at getting long. Germans biggest customer.

Volkswagen is determined to rule the world (and Audi is making that possible). TRW's biggest airbag supplier with airbag war no on (Scion has 11!). Expansion plans into china not crazy about but gotta be there, and timing, ironically, might be good.

Bet on china soft landing, big debt paydown and US growth. Europe stasis.

That's the way to run a car company in these troubling times:

I can second that. The only engine with "organs." 94-98 93 the last real Porsche--all oil-cooled the way a machine should be. I didn't have enough $, so had to build mine. Idea

I remember a news clip from last summer that stated that Porsche had drawn down their entire $20 billion dollar line of credit. Since they did not need the money in their business it seemed a curious move that at the time, looked defensive. Obviously not!

Wendelin Wiedeking may be the smartest guy in the room. Who knew Porsche was a hedge fund in drag???

Some long-short equity funds who were short Volkswagen may also have been dumping their DAX or Western European long holdings in order to raise liquidity.

Very reminiscent of the Northern Pacific Corner in May 1901.
