Tumbling tower of China: Amazing pictures of 13-storey block of flats that toppled over

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1196064/Tumbling-tower-China-Amazing-pictures-13-storey-block-flats-toppled-over.html

Quote:
A newly built 13-storey residential building collapsed in Shanghai yesterday, killing one worker. The block of high-rise flats toppled onto its side in the muddy construction site raising concerns that building safety standards are being overlooked in favour of fast construction in China’s rush to modernise.

The building appeared to be almost complete with fitted windows and a finished, tiled facade. Other similar-looking blocks in the same property development were still standing nearby.

HAHAHA. The Chinese know, Geithner is a clown. This is what we call the ancient, classic character of the former rich man, parading about proudly in his rags, nose turned up, sneering at everyone and then promising to pay for that hamburger next Tuesday if only he could borrow another nickel! The least the US can do is go down with some pride and dignity. It could just say, ‘We are bankrupt. We screwed up. We have to cease giving Israel billions of dollars. We have to close our bases in Japan, Korea, Germany, all the rich nations don’t need our troops. We have to cut the Pentagon’s budget back to around $100 billion a year or less. And we have to cease our stupid wars.’

But no, the US crawls to China, whines like a whipped puppy and then returns home and resumes BARKING at the Chinese like a sick poodle.

Quote:
Today, the House passed H. Res. 489, a resolution recognizing the 20th anniversary of the brutal suppression of protesters and citizens in and around Tiananmen Square, expressing sympathy to the families of those killed, tortured, and imprisoned in connection with the protests, and calling for the Chinese government to conduct a fair investigation and to release those imprisoned for participating in the 1989 demonstrations.

This is just jaw-dropping! The US runs notorious prisons where prisoners are called ‘detainees’ and they are tortured and abused, yesterday, one of them managed to commit suicide to escape his tormentors. They never get put on trial or if they are, they are not allowed to mention years and years of torture. The US has photos of this torture which the President refuses to show! Meanwhile the US sponsors despots all over the planet, it pays them to attack their own citizens and kill them. In Pakistan, millions of citizens were chased from their homes by troops paid by the US to attack Pakistanis. So much for ‘democracy’! The US keeps millions of Palestinians penned up into ghettos. Every penny spent on that horror is American.

In fact it is much worse: Pelosi went trotting off to China to kiss Hu’s ring and beg for money! Then, just two days later, attacks him! If the US imagines the Chinese don’t notice this craven sort of behavior, the US is much mistaken!

The Horatio Alger story of our time. All that's good and great about chinese entrepreneurship; also hollow and petty. Touches on all facets of the new china--the new "us." Read it and weap: "The Wastepaper Queen"

Great article. China plans ahead meanwhile congress acts like a bunch of quibbling school kids who couldn't organize a xxx up in a pub.

Chinese New Year brings the year of the Ox. The Ox in addition to being the sign of prosperity and fortitude is known to avoid extravagance. Oxen, according to the tradition, live within their means, work hard and are inherently risk averse.

US companies cut 45,000 jobs even before stock market opens

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/US_companies_cut_45000_jobs_even_0126.html

I don't see how this is bullish for the US economy. This probably means another 40,000 people will go bankrupt by next year. This will spread agony in local communities as many of these jobs are highly paid. The hits just keep on coming.....
